Chosen to Be Blameless

Suggested Scripture
Ephesians 1

Key Verse
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world
to be holy and blameless in his sight.

(Ephesians 1:4, NIV)

I sometimes leave dirty dishes in the sink. I have a tendency to kick off my shoes in front of the television and leave them there for days at a time. I don’t always put my laundry away as soon as it’s folded. I guess you could say that when it comes to keeping house, I’m something of a flawed individual.

When I lived on my own I didn’t have to worry about how someone else viewed my mess. But now that I’m married I hold myself to a higher standard. Why? Because my husband is neater than I am. I do my best to meet his expectations for a home that’s free from clutter and carelessness. Fortunately for me, I married a patient man. He knows that I’m not the perfect homemaker, but he treats me as though I am.

Spiritually speaking, living a life that’s holy and blameless is a bit like keeping a clean home. I do my best to be obedient to God because I know that my efforts to be holy and blameless please Him. I am God’s chosen child. He chose me knowing my flaws and imperfections. Still, he patiently and gently prods me to be a better person, holding me to a higher standard that all Christians are called to acknowledge.

Where do you fall short in your spiritual life?

Do you think that God’s standard for our obedience is too high?

How does it make you feel to know that God sees your imperfections?

Liked reading your post and think that very similar instances apply to many, however it is wise to have a good clear out now and then.
