Muffin Tops

Suggested Scripture

1st Peter 1

Key Verse

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled;
set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
(1st Peter 1:13, NIV)

The recipe is hardly complicated: 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk, and 1 package of Jiffy muffin mix. Bake at 400 degrees for 11 to 13 minutes. No matter how many times I've made those blueberry muffins over the years, I have rarely baked a batch that resulted in glorious, puffy muffin tops. My husband on the other hand, has never failed to produce wonderfully appetizing crowns when he bakes them. What was I doing wrong? The only difference between my husband's method and mine, is that he is patient. He waits the full 10 minutes for the oven to heat before sliding the muffin tin onto the center rack.

Patience. Self-control. These are things that don't always come naturally to us. Even in our relationships with God, we tend to be hasty at times. This should not be. God wants us to prepare our hearts and our minds for the day when we will see Christ. In addition to being watchful for the approaching day when Christ returns, we need to make the most of every opportunity to reflect on the incredible gift of grace.

Reflecting Pool

Are you ever hasty in your relationship with God?

What steps can you take to ensure that you don't take grace for granted?
