Peace for the New Year

Suggested Scripture
John 16

Key Verse
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
- John 16:33, NIV

Many of us begin the New Year looking forward to a clean slate and the opportunity to start over. We attempt to put the failures and short-comings of the previous year behind us, and move ahead with high hopes and ambitions. But what do we do about those things that we cannot truly put behind us? What do we do when we're still in the midst of trials and struggles?

It's possible to experience peace even when our circumstances seem less than peaceful. Jesus promises us that the troubles of the world are not enough to keep him from granting us peace. When we put our hope and trust in God, we will never be disappointed. When we find ourselves struggling to keep anxiety, worry, and frustration at bay, we can take heart! Jesus Christ is big enough to take on the troubles of the world, and small enough to be near to us on a personal level.

What greater sense of peace could you want for the New Year?

What troubles in your life are keeping you from feeling at peace?

Do you trust Jesus with all your anxieties and worry?

In what ways will you pursue peace in the New Year?
