He'll Carry You Through

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. --Psalm 55:22

Lately I've been reminded yet again of how out-of-control life can be. A coworker recently suffered a very serious accident while snow skiing in Mammoth, and a friend of mine has told me that her mom is fighting a losing battle with cancer . Things like that remind me of my own experiences when God allowed events to occur in my life that forced me to turn 180 degrees from the direction I thought I was headed.

I don't know why God allows certain things to happen when they do. I don't know why he uses such drastic measures to get some people's attention. I do know that God is faithful and that when life causes us to do an about-face, he helps us find footing on the new paths we must walk.

Sometimes we have to deal with so much hurt, that we begin to think that we must have done something to incur God's wrath. This simply is not so. It is in those times of hurt that God is closest to us. Not only is he there beside us, but he holds us, even carries us when we are so overwhelmed. When we cast our cares on him, he sustains us. We can cry out to him with our hurts, fears and agressions, and trust him to hold us and keep us from falling.

A few years ago, I wrote this poem to encourage some friends who had experienced a tremendously painful loss at a time that should have been very joyful. I hope that it offers some encouragement to anyone struggling to find their footing after having to make a heart-wrenching 180 degree turn around because of life's circumstances. I know from personal experience that God really does carry us when life gets all turned around. When everything else is out of control, he remains steadfast and can be our comfort when we cast our cares on him.

"He'll Carry You Through"

In one heartbeat, lives are changed forever.

In an instant, dreams fall down with tears.

From that moment nothing is the same again

and in that second, God sees all your fears.

And he knows the hurt,

and he knows your pain.

And he knows that you don't know what to do.

He sees you on your knees

Asking Him to be your strength,

'cause you know he will carry you through.

He will carry you

through the trials and pain that you face.

He will carry you

when you lose the strength to run this race.

I know he will carry you through.

In his loving arms, he'll carry you through.

In a second your plans fell apart.

In a flash, your world lost its spin.

In a moment your heart broke in half

and now you want it to be whole again.

In that brokenness God holds you close,

wipes stray tears away.

With each day, he's lifting you

he promises you a future

and hope within his plan.

Each day he will carry you through.

He will carry you

through the trials and pain that you face.

He will carry you

when you lose the strength to run this race.

I know he will carry you through.

In his loving arms he'll carry you through.
